Pittelkow workshop, part 2

About ten marblers gathered at BookWorks in Asheville the weekend of August 22-24 for a continuing session of marbling with Minnesota bookbinder and marbler extraordinaire, Steve Pittelkow.  After reviewing the basics he introduced the group to some more advanced patterns and techniques.  The energy and color in a roomful of marblers is wonderful.

Spanish Moire, as shown in the sample below left is a beautiful design, but a little tricky to accomplish.  My best results have come with black paper, but this one isn’t too bad, over an earthy stone pattern.

Detail of overmarbled sheet

The unusual pattern on the right was created by an atypical placement of pins in one of the instructor’s combs, and the dual image results from overmarbling.  (You let the first print dry completely, re-alum, and create the pattern perpendicular to the one already on the paper.)  This is a detail of the full sheet.
